The Altavista Arts Council promotes and develops artistic and cultural programs for youth and adults in the community, and with providing coordinated methods of support for such programs in the following categories:
The council works closely with our schools to provide cultural activities for students of all ages.
The council has formed a book club for adults. The adult book club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., at the Avoca Museum. For more information, please contact Cathy O'Callaghan at 434.941.9722 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The council is committed to promoting visual art throughout our community. Hanging art displays at the Town Hall and YMCA Athletic Center display the art and photography work of local citizens. A reception, with light refreshments, is held on a Sunday, 2:00-4:00pm so that the community has an opportunity to meet with the artists. Most work is available for purchase.
The council strives to provide concert performances by musical performers and groups that appeal to people of all ages. See Avoca Calendar of Events for details.
The YMCA/Arts Council is pleased to offer movies to the community as part of the Vista Flix program. Movies are shown on the lawn at Avoca and at various locations throughout the year.
