Infant Care at the Family Center, ages 6 weeks-16 months

Child care at the Y is more than looking after kids. It’s about providing a nurturing environment. Our child development program provides quality, licensed care for infants. There is a 1:4 ratio. Our curriculum encourages independent learning in a supportive setting. The infant program is licensed by VDOE. Financial assistance available for those who qualify. We do not offer part-time infant care.

Younger Toddlers (16-24 months)

The classrooms have a daily schedule that allows for independent growth, as well as whole and small group activities. The children learn through play, centers, outdoor/indoor motor activities, arts and crafts, and story time. The younger toddler program is licensed by VDOE. Financial assistance available for those who qualify.

Older Toddlers (24 months-36 months)

Provided at the Family Center and Brookneal site.

The classrooms have a daily schedule that allows for independent growth, as well as whole and small group activities. The children learn through play, centers, outdoor/indoor motor activities, arts and crafts, and story time. The Family Center and Brookneal sites are licensed by VDOE. Finanical assistance available for those who qualify.

Preschool (36 months – 60 months)

Provided at the Family Center and Brookneal Site.

Learning through play, and teaching children how to work together through whole and small group activities. Children play outside, participate in centers, STEM activities, field trips, swim lessons (Family Center site), arts and crafts, and story time. The Family Center and Brookneal sites are licensed by VDOE. Financial assistance available.

Before and After School Care (PreK – 12 years of age)

We provide snack time, homework help, indoor/outdoor play, small/large group activities and independent play. Morning sites open at 6:30AM and all sites close at 6:00PM. All sites are licensed by VDOE. We receive support from Child and Adult Care Food Program to serve healthy meals to children. Financial assistance available for those who qualify.

YMCA Summer Camp (4-12 years of age)

Camps at the Y share one thing: they’re about discovery. Kids have the opportunity to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories. Our staffing, instruction and programs are built around the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

A Summer of Fun!

Summer camp sites are at the Y Family Center in Altavista, Brookneal Library, Leesville, Concord, Rustburg, Yellow Branch, and Tomahawk Elementary Schools. Operating hours are 6:30am-6:00pm. Weekly field trips, swimming, arts and crafts, and more. Only pay for the weeks your child will be attending. Financial assistance available.
