Adult Recreational Activities

At our Athletic Center, we offer pick-up basketball games, pickleball and racquetball! We also offer group fitness classes, line dancing and martial arts, as well as water fitness classes at the Family Center.

Youth Sports & Activities

At the Y there is so much for youth to participate in. There are team sports such as soccer, swim team, basketball and more. We offer something year round for kids of all ages. The E.R. English Scholarship is available to those who qualify.

Karate

Altavista Area YMCA – Spring Sports Registration

Spring Sports Registration at the Altavista Area YMCA is now open through February 28.

Registration fees for all sports excluding Run Club are:

  • $65 for YMCA members and in-town residents
  • $75 for non-members residing out of town

Baseball (Ages 4–12)

  • Boys T-Ball (Ages 4–6): Practices and games held at the Altavista Area YMCA
  • Baseball (Ages 7–10): Practices and games held at the Altavista Area YMCA or the Motley Ruritan Club
  • Baseball (Ages 11–12): Practices and games held at the Motley Ruritan Club

Softball (Ages 4–12)

  • All practices and games will be held at the Altavista Area YMCA
  • Teams will compete against Rustburg, Brookneal, and Timberlake

Soccer (Co-ed, Ages 6–14)

  • U8: Program operated by the YMCA; games played as part of the Campbell County Parks & Recreation League
  • U10, U12, and U15: Programs operated by the YMCA; teams will compete against Central Virginia Regional Soccer Association teams, primarily within Campbell County and extending as far as Appomattox
  • Games will be played on Saturdays, with the possibility of a few Sunday games

Run Club (Co-ed, Kindergarten–5th Grade)

Participants will learn the importance of running as part of a healthy, active lifestyle, as well as proper running techniques.

  • Sessions held Mondays and Thursdays, 4:00–5:00 PM
  • Coaches include volunteers from a local church and Liberty University students
  • Transportation available from Altavista Area YMCA Childcare

Ongoing Activities at the Y

  • For Y members only, Pick Up Basketball Tuesday and Thursday Nights from 6-8 pm. Adult Pickup Basketball will stop from December 2025 through February 2026 for youth basketball.
  • Adult Pickleball is available in the evenings on Monday and Friday from 6-8 pm. Beginning in December, Adult Pickleball will be Monday and Thursday nights on court two from approximately 7:30 – 8:45 pm.
